NASA has unveiled the design of a prototype ship similar to Star Trek “might make interstellar travel a reality.” This work is led by researcher Harold White, known for suggesting that travel faster than light (FTL) is possible, in collaboration with artist Mark Rademaker.
Specifically, White noted that the use of thrust ‘Warp’ – that would propel a spacecraft to a speed equal to various multiples of the speed of light- – is feasible and that such ships could play with the space- time and cover great distances almost instantaneously. This, in essence, allow a spacecraft to travel almost anywhere in a fraction of the time it would take a conventional spacecraft.
Interstellar Star Trek ship of Christopher Nolan used an engine ‘Warp’, as the new model vehicle having White, who has called IXS, and, according to the scientist, would behave like the film. In addition, the outward appearance is also based on the famous Starship Enterprise in the series.
Although the speed of light is seen as an absolute, White was based on the theory of Mexican researcher Miguel Alcubierre, who postulated a theory that could travel faster than light, but without contradicting Einstein . This theory was published in 1994 and involved use huge amounts of energy to expand and collapse the space to generate a ‘warp bubble’ within which the ship can travel.
This bubble allow space and time act as an engine pulling the ship through the bubble. “I’d like to make it into an escalator,” he pointed the author told the Daily Mail . Although Alcubierre pointed out that this was just a guess, White believes, along with his team, are moving toward faster than the speed of light travel.
A YEAR LIKE AN ENGINE LIGHT
For now, White admits that his research is still on a small scale and is light years away from any type of engine could be built as a spaceship Enterprise . But it has drawn a roadmap with milestones to be overcome on the way to achieve interstellar travel actually do.
As explained, this list begins with testing on Earth to demonstrate that the technology is possible and continues with the use of technology in a spaceship to complete, first, a short trip to the Moon and then a trip to Mars through the bubble ‘Warp’.
