Apple Incl. just announced in latest event in Cupertino, USA, its most powerful new smartphone, the iPhone X (can say “iPhone 10”). The device is a commemorative edition for the tenth anniversary of the iPhone line, which began its story in 2007 with Steve Jobs on stage. As Apple’s co-founder is no longer among us, today’s stage was named in his honor: Steve Jobs Theater.
The biggest highlight of the iPhone X is certainly its new design. Since 2014, Apple has not released an iPhone with significant changes in appearance, but the model of 2017 comes to end this fast. The device has a virtually all body built in glass, but still retains a metal frame. Other than that, the front face of the handset is mostly occupied by the OLED 5.8 “display (2436×1125 and 458 ppi), rounded corners and a peculiar cut on the top to house the front camera and some sensors.
Description about some top changes
The most important aspect of the new iPhone is iOS 11 with its augmented reality capabilities. Apple introduced mid-year ARKit, a basic platform for developers to build apps on that system, and at the launch, it’s possible to use a number of cool features.
The next aspect is that this is also the first iPhone not to have a physical / capacitive home button. This is because the display has grown and eliminated almost completely the upper and lower edges.
Instead of the Touch ID, we now have Face ID to ensure user safety. Apple does not reveal, but it seems that the company – just like Samsung – failed to embed the digital sensor directly on the screen as it was supposedly planned.
Other than that, Apple had to customize iOS 11 especially for that device. To return to the initial screen of the device, for example, it is necessary to make a gesture in the display from the bottom up. To do multitasking, you have to move in the middle of the path.
But what really changed here was the biometric identification system. Instead of the Touch ID, we now have Face ID. It identifies details of the user’s face with a series of sensors, which includes the front camera and an infrared camera for depth. According to Apple, you cannot fool the system using photos or even masks created with the best technologies used in Hollywood. The system still uses machine learning so that, over time, Face ID adapts to changes in your face. That is, no matter what style of hair, beard or glasses you have, you will not need to re-register biometrics. This novelty is also used for Apple Pay. This set of sensors for facial tracking can also be used for other applications.
It has a dual camera system, each with 12 MP (f / 1.8 + f / 2.4) and both with optical stabilization. In the new iPhone, however, they are used for different things. There are several options for lighting effects, and they can be applied in real time while you frame the images. Apple compares these features with professional lighting conditions. In fact they are interesting effects, especially one that completely darkens the user environment, leaving only your face in focus. It’s the new portrait mode that smaller makers will start copying from now on.
It is interesting to note that most of these effects will be available for the self-camera too, which will be aided by the infrared sensor that detects depth. You can capture 4K video and play that content on the iPhone’s HDR screen, which still has improved stereo sound compared to the previous version of the phone.
As usual, Apple has not revealed more technical details about the RAM, but it is expected that the new phone has 3 GB. The processor, the Apple A11 Bionic is the first in its category, according to the manufacturer and must have a very good performance, probably ahead of competitors. It has two high-performance cores, four designed to save energy and the first GPU 100% developed by Apple itself.
There will be two storage options: 64 GB and 256 GB. That speculated 512 GB option before the release was not confirmed. It’s also good to mention Bluetooth 5.0, which appeared on the market initially in the Galaxy S8 and allows you to connect more than one device at the same time.
Another aspect is it is the first iPhones to count on wireless charging. It is believed that this is why the manufacturer decided to return to the glass in the back cover, since more traditional patterns of wireless charging do not work through metal alloys.
Apple will initially have three colors for this model in the market: black, silver and gold. The price of the most basic model is $ 999 and the most expensive will come out for $ 1,149. For more updates and experiences, we have to wait for the pre-sale that starts on October 27, and actual sales are set for November 03.
