This is not the first time that IBM sells patents to Internet companies. In 2010 he sold 1,000 patents to Google, in 2012, 750 to Facebook. IBM, is the largest owner of technological patents worldwide.
Twitter has purchased 900 patents from IBM and also has agreed to use the rest.
“This acquisition of IBM patents and licensing agreement provides greater protection of intellectual property and gives us the leeway to innovate for the sake of those who use our services,” commented on this agreement the legal director of Twitter, Ben Lee.
The CEO of IBM Intellectual Property Ken King declared that his company is “delighted” to reach this agreement with Twitter that “enhances the value of IBM’s patents” and expected a “productive relationship” with his new partner.
