Western Digital has introduced My Cloud, a tool for organizing and protecting digital content from all kinds of devices. In this way, users can access their files from anywhere in the world by simply connecting your Internet personal cloud.
My Cloud incorporates a simplified interface for the web and automatically detects the disc, features to make setup as easy as possible for novice users. The device includes a high-speed connection and Dual-Core processor. Also, thanks to the rise from smartphones and tablets, the most important content can be transferred directly.
My Cloud also be used to back up data from a computer and provides information on when, how and where. It is also compatible with the features of Apple Time Machine for Mac.
The device can relay the movies or music stored on consoles or Smart Tvs. It also includes a mobile app to view and share files from tablets and phones or transfer content to other services like Dropbox, Google Drive or SkyDrive.
“We believe that our home is the ideal place for the cloud,” said executive vice president and general manager of the division of consumer electronics products from Western Digital, Jim Welsh.”Today we are all overflowing with thousands of digital files scattered among a large number of computers and mobile devices, so that control this chaos is a challenge,” he added.
Research firm Gartner estimates that within three years every home will generate about 3.3 terabytes (TB) of digital content.Also, the very Western Digital has done a study on how the Spanish store their data, which revealed that more than 75 percent are exposed to the loss of their personal data.
My Cloud is available as 2TB, 3TB and 4TB, but still not enough capacity could be increased by connecting a USB 3.0 hard drive compatible with the expansion ports of the machine. The price varies depending on storage capacity and versions 2 and 3 TB cost 179 and 229 euros respectively. The format of 4 TB will arrive later this year.
