Opera reaches 300 million users and is passed Webkit

Opera has announced that it has reached 300 million unique users per month . They have also decided to change its Presto rendering engine WebKit development for mobile and desktop Chromium.


   This new rendering engine is originally based on the KHTML rendering engine of the KDE project’s web browser , Konqueror. The Norwegian company has said it will gradually adopting devices.

   This is the same engine used by Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome and neglect, after ten years, Presto. They think it makes more sense to work on the open source WebKit.

   ” The WebKit engine is already very good and our goal is to participate in improving it . Supports standards we care and have the performance we need. addition, it makes sense that our experts work with open source communities in WebKit in Instead of developing our own rendering engine “said CTO of Opera Software, Hakon Wium Lie.

   They are also expected to announce in the next Mobile World Congress to be held later this month in Barcelona a new browser for Android based on Webkit. The project is named after ICE and it would be “a truly innovative browser for mobile devices that will provide more information in the future,” explains Wium Lie. “Opera is for people who appreciate the choice, and we will make it even easier to choose Opera in the future.”
