Google accused Rockstar a consortium of companies among which are Apple , BlackBerry , Ericsson , Microsoft and Sony , to establish legal charges indiscriminately by patent misuse in its Android mobile platform and left to respond with another lawsuit.
Google’s response follows the steps of the application filed by Rockstar in November against the creator of Android and seven other companies, all manufacturers of devices based on this operating system : Asus, HTC, Huawei, LG, Pantech, Samsung and ZTE. “Rockstar employees are dedicated to analyzing only the successful products of other companies to find some reason to establish a claim for patents and licenses, “Google said in the lawsuit earlier this week. Rockstar is a spin-off of Nortel , a Canadian firm pioneer in the telecommunications sector, which went bankrupt in 2009. His 4500 patent were disputed by leading technology companies, including Google even offered USD 900 million. However, the patents of the defunct Nortel were won by Apple, Blackberry, Ericsson, Microsoft and Sony after paying USD 2000 million.
After losing in the dispute over the license portfolio of Nortel, Google decided a month later to acquire the division of Motorola’s mobile , which owns about 17,000 patents globally.
