The experts have advised Internet users to disable Java, Oracle software, due to a major security problem. According to them, several groups of hackers have exploited the vulnerability in recent days.
“Java is a disaster.’s Not safe,” said lab director AlienVault Labs, Jaime Blasco. “You have to turn it off,” he added.
Java software that is installed on hundreds of millions of computers around the world, is a programming language that allows programmers to write software using a single set of code . This also can run on virtually any computer.
Java is used to allow web developers to make their sites accessible from browsers that run on Microsoft Windows or Mac computers users access these programs through modules , or ‘plug-ins’ that work with software Java in browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Three security experts warned on Thursday of the problem and urged computer users to disable Java modules to protect these attacks.Meanwhile, an Oracle spokeswoman said she could not immediately comment on the matter.
“This is like an open hunting season against consumers” , said the director of security Rapid7, HD Moore. This company helps others to identify critical security vulnerabilities in their networks.
Moore said the computers running on Mac OS X, Linux or Windows seem to be vulnerable to attack. Furthermore, the CTO of BeyondTrust, Marc Maiffret, said companies may need Java to access some websites.
“The challenge lies primarily in companies that have to use it for some applications,” he said. “Oracle only has to work a lot more to ensure Java” he said.
Security experts said the risk of attack is high, as developers ‘exploit kits’, files that criminals use to attack computers, added software that allows hackers to exploit the newly discovered bug in Java.
