Different Kinds of Home Security Cameras

By -

When you decide to get a home security system installed in your home, you are given different options as to the type of camera used on your property. Your budget and personal preferences will be the biggest factors in determining what kind of security cameras will work best.

Fake Cameras

If you don’t have much money but you’d still like to keep your home as safe as possible, you could look into getting fake cameras installed around your home. Thankfully, intruders will have a hard time telling a real camera from a fake camera. Should you decide to go with a fake camera, it is wise to spend as much money as possible to make the dummies look authentic.

Intelligent Video Surveillance

An intelligent video surveillance system lets you know when something on your property changes. Intelligent video cameras are used in hospitals and daycare centers to keep an eye out for suspicious people in prohibited areas. A mini video camera can be installed at your front or back door to let you know when an intruder is trying to force their way inside your home. Currently, these types of cameras are being developed to identify and recognize a person’s specific features. This will eliminate cause for alarm each time a guest or deliveryman comes to your door.

Wired and Wireless

Wireless home security systems use Internet Protocol cameras – or IP cameras – in order to transmit images to the Internet. A system of wireless home security cameras is easy and inexpensive to set up and use. However, sometimes Internet networks and cordless telephones can disrupt the wireless security systems.

A wired home security system requires physical wires in order for it to work properly. This type of system is best installed when constructing or remodeling homes. Images captured by wired cameras are transmitted to a recording device.

Hidden Cameras

Hidden cameras for your home come in various colors, sizes, and shapes. Small hidden cameras can be placed inside your home or around the yard in an inconspicuous spot, or you can buy an item that comes with a camera hidden inside of it. You can purchase a hidden camera that looks like a stuffed animal, sprinkler, DVD player, potted plant, or a child’s toy, among other options. One thing to keep in mind is that some hidden cameras produce lower quality images than other cameras. Hidden cameras are popular for keeping an eye on babysitters and home health aides.

Night Vision Cameras

Poorly lit areas around your home can be seen with night vision cameras that use infrared lights. The images transmitted through night vision cameras are black and white.

Wide-Angle Lens

If you need to keep an eye on an expansive area, a dome-shaped home security camera with a wide-angle lens is best.

Think carefully about the types of cameras that would work best for your budget and your home. Certain locations call for visible security measures while others require discreet cameras.
